Stopping your Dog Barking

There are quite a few things that in life that can make you crazy, and one of them is the constant barking of a dog, whether is a quick 'Woof woof' or the incessant high pitched yapping, this can easily cause you a headache very quickly, and make you feel quite angry.

The good news is that dogs do not need to bark to make them happy. Barking is a sign of stress, anxiety or frustration, plus it could also be over excitement, which none of these emotions are ideal for your dog.

And especially YOU !!!

Also remember that a contented and relaxed and peaceful dog does not bark.

We will look at one specific type of barking and  get you the owner to put and an end to this problem......

Basically dogs bark when your aren't at home is quite a common problem. People have no knowledge that they have this problem, until your neighbour or worst still a Dog Control Officer pays you a visit. But understanding the nature to why your dog is barking is key to putting and end to this problem, and addressing the cause as to why your dogs has this issue and not treat the symptoms.

Please understand that you MUST remember you have to see it all through your DOGS eyes!

So think of it like this.....

The dog in your presence is a pack animal and only understands that there are leaders and followers.

So it follows that the job of the Pack Leader is to protect the pack.

Come Monday morning and everyone leaves the house for work, and you leave your dog at home alone, the animal starts feeling stressed...and obviously the dog feels as if she/he has lost his pack!

This is the reason why there are stressed and barking incessantly, they are calling out to you to come back, in effect they are only doing what to them is natural.

In human terms, if you are a parent of a 3 year old child, the most important job is t keep the child safe, to keep an eye on them, all the time, all over the house  and you know where they are. Simply put they are safe, and you are relaxed and happy.

And should they walk out the house then shut the door behind them locking you in, how would you deal with it ?

You would chase after them? and fast !!

But if the front door was locked and you couldn't open it, coupled with the fact that all doors and windows were firmly bolted shut, how and what would you do......

Get on the phone? You dear Dog doesn't have that option!

Shout for help? Which ironically is what your Dog is doing....

Most of us wouldn't sit down, relax and have a cup of tea, knowing that your child was wandering the streets alone vulnerable.

I hope by now you see how your Dog is so stressed and barking when you all leave the house.

Added to the barking, there are several behaviours such as chewing, destruction, digging under the fence, or even jumping the fence. These happen when your not around. These are symptoms of stress from a dog that is utterly concerned about you for not being home and safe. Sadly our dogs cannot speak to us in a language like English to explain their behaviour.

What's the solution? Its not going to be a huge bone for them to chew on whilst your away, hardly a solution to a parent who is totally stressed when their child is missing and you cant get out of the house. Do you see where this is now leading.

Box of chocolates, Toys stuffed with food, and all other distractions cannot treat the cause of the problem either, that is treating the symptoms - at best and if your lucky this might last an hour or so, but not long term. and guess we have all tried it and know that its ineffective!

Well, the solution is quite simple.

Do this correctly and your Dog wont see it a their responsibility to protect you.

You will be able to come and go as you want, and your Dog will be totally relaxed about it.

No tricks here, this is the solution to having a calm and relaxed Dog, an honest understanding.

So becoming the Pack Leader isn't rocket science, its not hard to understand, anyone can to it, however the explanation cannot be effective here, but it you take a look at DoggyDans website he explains  very powerfully how to establish yourself at the pack leader thus stop your dog from barking when you leave them.

Here though are additional tips that you can use in conjunction with becoming the pack leader that will help stop your dogs barking.

•    Exercise: Exercise your dog before you leave them – a tired dog is more likely to relax
•    Find the right space: Try leaving your dog in different areas – some dogs will relax more outside, others inside and some prefer smaller areas such as a washroom
•    Fed and watered: Always leave water down and make sure that your dog is warm and fed before you leave
•    Pick up the bones: Leave toys around for your dog but not bones
•    Music and TV: Consider leaving music on for your dog or the TV – these distractions can help
•    Herbal remedies: There are some herbal products for dogs which can help relax them – but again they do not really treat the cause of the issue, they simply help relax them, and are also quite costly
•    Dog walkers: A break in the middle of the day can certainly help break up your dogs day
•    Leave calmly: Leave your dog calmly – whilst it's fun to get excited when you leave your dog it's better if you leave calmly. Try to say goodbye 5 minutes before leaving to help them stay relaxed as you go
•    Comfort jackets: There are also jackets and shirts available that are designed to comfort them – however they are very expensive and have limited success in my experience. I even know of one dog that ate it!

Unfortunately the popular idea that getting another dog is going to stop the problem is something I would stay well away from. Remember the source of your dogs issue is not boredom. After all, many dogs who bark all day when the owners leave are the same dogs who lie around the house doing nothing most of the weekend when they are at home!

So with all that said hopefully now you have a far better understanding of your dog's problem!

I would suggest if you are really serious about stopping the barking immediately then take a look at Doggy Dans site and become the pack leader. That will be the end of your issue.

To take a free look around the site CLICK HERE DoggyDans website There is actually an entire section dedicated to stopping this sort of barking under the dog problem section "Separation Anxiety".

It’s not hard but you have to understand your dog's problem through their eyes rather than human eyes! They do not want more bones, or biscuits shoved into a ball – what they want is a strong pack leader.

So get started now, don’t hang around. The sooner you turn things around the sooner your neighbours will be thanking you for it!

A great Testimonial from a very thankful customer.
